HMOs are organized to hold down both costs and insurance premiums. Associated Family Physicians agrees to monitor costs, but we serve our patients, not insurance companies.

Preferred Provider Organizations (PPOs)
PPOs are insurance plans which contract with doctors and hospitals. Patients usually have the option to seek physicians outside the plans, in contrast to HMOs, but usually have to pay more if they see non-participating physicians.

Medicare HMOs/Senior Plans
Medicare is currently encouraging seniors to enroll in HMOs. These usually provide more services than plain Medicare, with minimal or no insurance premiums from the patient. We see Senior Plan patients through Hill Physicians.
